Ask Jenny T. - Roman Shade Bead Chain Systems

Welcome to another Ask Jenny T. episode. I love it when you ask me questions! So, if you have a sewing related question… send it to me at jennytsews@gmail.com

Here’s this week’s question…

Jenny,

I have caught a few of your instructional videos on YouTube regarding assembly and installation of roman shades using the clutch pulley/continuous bead mechanism for retracting and extending the roman shade. I have purchased in bulk this system from Rowley’s to make roman shades for most of the windows in my home, most will be layered with drapery panels and sheers. I will have one or two small windows that will only require two cords, which you state in one of those videos, is worked a bit different. I am considering membership in your website to have access to your instructional videos and ebooks. Is this topic covered in your website and are the instructions complete, start to finish with some troubleshooting Q & A?

I received instructions and made one flat roman shade and installed it in a bedroom. It seemed to work well for a little while, then one side seemed to not draw up in sequence with the others, so that the shade was not level on the bottom. It was weighted with a metal rod, the lift cord didn’t seem to wind up as it should on the fiberglass rod at the top. Another question, you mention installing orbs, is this to help even out the left cords?

I have worked in costume, drapery, and upholstery workrooms, so I have a little sewing experience, I’m so looking forward to creating my own window treatments. Your instructions on the roman shades were very clear and easy to understand, you have done a very nice job in your explanations.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I look forward to hearing from you.
